Biography: Charles Barkley was an American professional basketball player who played for the Philadelphia 76ers, Phoenix Suns, and Houston Rockets, earning 11 NBA All-Star appearances and an MVP award in 1993. Barkley won two Olympic gold medals and after retiring became a successful NBA analyst, winning four Sports Emmy Awards.

Barkley grew up in Leeds, Alabama, facing family struggles, including his parents' divorce and the death of his stepfather. A significant growth spurt in high school propelled him into a standout senior season, leading to recruitment by Auburn University.

At Auburn, he led the SEC in rebounding each year and received the nickname "The Round Mound of Rebound," leaving with several honors including SEC Player of the Year in 1984.

Drafted by the Philadelphia 76ers in 1984, Barkley's 16-season NBA career was distinguished by his strength and skill as a rebounder. Despite being shorter than typical power forwards, he retired as one of only four players with over 20,000 points, 10,000 rebounds, and 4,000 assists.

His confrontational style and candid remarks often sparked controversies, including a spitting incident in 1991 and his opinion on athletes not being role models.

Barkley played a key role in the famed "Dream Team" during the 1992 and 1996 Olympic Games. He transitioned into a media career following his retirement, providing NBA analysis for TNT and CBS Sports, authoring books, and hosting a show called "King Charles."

His jersey was retired by both Auburn University and the Philadelphia 76ers.

Married to Maureen Blumhardt since 1989 and the father of Christiana, Barkley has been open about his gambling habits. His television and media appearances have also further expanded his reach beyond sports and sports commentary, including a role in Space Jam (1996).
